The Harvest

For the past decade I have tried my hand at writing novels. Writing, reviewing, editing, reviewing again, scrapping projects, beginning again... and the cycle continues.

Over those ten years I've completed writing two books - one is still nowhere near publication, but I've sent the other out to agents as I begin the long, dreary road of attempting traditional publishing.

As the tide runs red with the blood of the Harvest, Iris must choose: remain loyal to her family or save the life of the human boy she loves, sacrificing her identity as a siren of the sea.

When Jace Jacobsen moves to Santa Cruz, he never expects to find that ancient myth has turned into reality or find himself risking his life to protect a monster. That all changes when he meets Iris – a hauntingly beautiful girl guarding a hoard of secrets. Iris’ troubled life is too complicated to include Jace, but all too soon she’s in love with her prey. It isn’t until the only boy Iris has ever fallen for hears her song – a hypnotic melody that leads men beneath the waves to their deaths – that her world turns upside down.

Will Iris give in to her bloodlust and sacrifice Jace to the Harvest or will she turn her back on everything she's ever known?


If Iris chooses her clan, Jace’s soul will be lost forever. If she chooses Jace, then she must give up her own.

The first Sunday Justin and I attended our new ward in Vernal, the bishop called us into his office. We assumed it was just a "get-to-know-you" meeting... We walked out of his office 10 minutes later with a new calling: Co-primary teachers for the Valiant 9 class (9 year olds). We love teaching primary and have actually been lucky enough to partner up before. I've got the whole hand-out and object lesson thing down and Justin is pro at telling stories and engaging the class. Coming Closer to Christ in 30 Days (Part 1)

We all experience different seasons throughout our lives. At times we walk through this journey with the crisp air of Spring filling our lungs, the scent of fresh flowers and rain making every breath one of renewal, and the refreshing vision of a world blanketed in green. Other times we walk--or in my case, run--through the bitter winter storms. During those times, the heavy pressure of an oncoming thunderstorm can weigh on our shoulders, especially if we find ourselves stuck in the middle of a hurricane with no foreseeable way out. No matter the season we walk through today--or the season we'll face tomorrow--we have to rely on Christ always. Speaking from personal experience, it's often easy to forget Him when we walk through the Springs and Summers of life. What Life's All About...

After ten months of getting to be a part of this little girlie's life, you start to realize what life's all about. It's summer mornings sitting in the backyard--Lucy lounging in the shady grass while you pick blades of grass and digs up rocks. It's sun-kissed skin on a two-mile hike to Ely Creek Falls along with a warm nap and snacks where we sneakily took Lucy. It's weekend fairs at Dino"SAUR" days to shop from local vendors and listen to live music. It's crawling in the grass at city parks and playing with maracas at the Pasifika festival in Provo.   It's summer afternoons in the kiddie pool splashing and playing with toys. It's weekly play dates at the park with our new friends. It's many weekend trips to the Wasatch Front to be spoiled by grandmas and grandpas, loved by aunts and uncles, and to play with cousins of all ages.
