Decorating on a Dime: Saint Patrick's Day

For the past three to four years, my life has been a whirlwind of changes and all I've been able to do is run with it to keep up.

Justin and I got married in 2012, we moved to Virginia in 2014 where he was a full time grad student and I had a full time job as an Account Manager at WorldStrides and a part time job at Book Review 22. Needless to say we were very busy - the dishes often stacked up in the sink, the hamper overflowed with dirty laundry, the fridge was barren except for condiments and unidentified leftovers. We made it work and loved every moment of it...

Justin graduated from the University of Virginia in 2016 and we moved to Vernal, UT where he started his career as a Speech Language Pathologist at Ashley Regional Medical Center. I still work part time for Book Review 22, but the deal was if I put my sweet hubby through grad school, I could wash my hands of working full time.

And he's honored that ten-fold.

One thing I love to do, but rarely had time for in our old hustle-bustle life was getting to decorate and really take care of a home. Before our baby girl arrives, I'm getting that chance.

Although grad school is over and we are into our career, finances still play a very large role as we have thousands of dollars of debt to pay back. This can't stop us from doing what we love though and so I'm learning to decorate on a dime.

Saint Patrick's Day is an easy holiday to decorate for - just find everything you own that's green and throw it up... strategically of course! That's how we decorated this year and it cost us absolutely nothing. I took green and gold ribbon that I already owned along with some Baby's Breath that survived from Valentine's Day and made a simple centerpiece for our table.

Then using some leftover green scrapbook paper I cut out shamrocks of all different shades and patterns. I taped each shamrock onto a piece of thread, taping the ends of each shamrock column to the wall. This let them flutter a bit, but kept them anchored to the wall so my Golden Retriever didn't think they were meant as chew toys for her.

I only did a few decorations this year, but would love more ideas! What are your favorite St. Patrick's Day decorations?
